Though not a serious collector next to folks that have hundreds, I at one time had a modest collection of over 25 Tarot decks, more if you counted the Oracles, even more if you counted all the decks that I have owned and let go through out the years. I loved each of these decks as individual inspirations, personalities I learned from, and most communicated quite well. However there was a good portion of the decks that remained mostly unused and I felt sad that I was not regularly appreciating them. Some just didnt vibe with me completely for one reason or another, as some decks will have a tendency to do. So, motivated by different reasons, I made the decision to begin purging my decks, either selling or giving them away to people that they belonged with. Surprisingly, after so many years of collecting, I felt okay with this decision. I did take the time to re-evaluate each one to determine those that needed to stay with me, or if it was just a nice "collector" deck that may be better suited to another. The swift response I have gotten from others confirm to me that this was a good move. I had no difficulty in selling over 10 decks and some of them seemed so perfectly matched to the people who wanted them. A good friend showed an interest in The Art Nouveau mini Tarot so I gave it to her. She says she feels as if she has found her muses. She still insists on paying me for it but Im not worried about it as I really felt like they needed to go to her. I love how Tarot can call to you..though its more like You calling to you. You have something to say.
Now I move on to new Tarot horizons. I feel like I need to be focusing on more than the collecting, do something different with the Tarot, perhaps even design a deck of my own, though I am after what I have nicknamed "The Perfect 10", my personal top ten favorite decks. Some I currently own, some I have owned in the past, and some I have yet to meet. I have a feeling that this list of 10 may change and evolve, but the number of decks should stay around ten. Purging also allows me to return to other forms of divination studies, though I continue to learn everyday from the art form that is Tarot.
I would love to know what others would have on their Top Ten List, the must-have decks for you.
Peace,
Eala
